RE: Towing brakes.

Thanks To everybody for the input, One more question on this matter, The Jeep manual say's to turn the key on and disconect the neg, battey cable, why? if the air and radio and everything is off the battery should be alright. The key has to be on to keep the steering wheel free. that I understand, but not the part about the cable. Thanks. Ed.
I think you need power for the aux brakes. I have Brake Buddy for my TOAD and even though I haven't used it lately, it seems you have to plug it in to the aux power outlet to operate. If you disconnect the battery it won't work.

RE: Bigfoot 30MH27DSL question

In my ’06 29G the pump and drain access is located about 6 feet in back of the driver in the storage compartment. It has 2 small doors for access, 1 for pump, other for drain which takes hours it seems.
Next time try opening your water sigots inside the coach. You may a vaccuum problem that prevents the water from draining correctly.

RE: Maximum weight in cabover?

I'm sure that this may be a model specific issue. I called Winnebago when I was changing from a sleep area to entertainment for the cabover area and was told 350 lbs was max when traveling, did not ask when set up and camping but I assumed 350 was a good number for both.

RE: Diesel fuel is NOT more expensive than Gasoline

I don't know where you are buying your diesel, but here DFW area, you can find diesel as cheap as $4.65 and gas $3.61. That to me is a significant difference, especially when you consider the cost of a diesel engine compared to a gasoline engine.

RE: SCORE!! Got it! The 06V23J & drove from IA to NY

The gen set should charge the batteries, however, the alternator on the engine should charge the coach batteries while you are driving. If they discharged while you were driving there is something not quite right. How did you start the gen set if the coach batteries were dead?

RE: Found one,MAYBE?

Check this unit very carefully, 16k is very cheap for this MH. I would think a 2003 in good shape would be closer to 30k.

RE: Have you weighed your class C?

I'm 2500 pounds under max weight with my 24' no-slide Winnie on an E450 chassis. You have a common problem that comes with slides and longer class c units.
Not necessarily true. My Winnie 31C with one slide and levelers fully loaded weighed 13220 total weight. It may be brand related since your 24' Winnie has plenty of weight to spare also.

RE: GVWR On class C

My 31' Minnie weighs 13220 fully loaded with fuel, lpg, 1/2 tank water, 2 bikes, fishing gear etc all supplies for a week, 2 schnauzers, DW and myself. The MH has one slide and HWH levelers, so I don't see the problem preceived about a MH of this size having no carrying capacity. There's nothing else I would want to take and I'm still 1200 lbs under capacity.

RE: house battery goes dead when rv hooked up to electric

Hope someone is still monitoring this section. I've been offline for a week.
I unhooked the negative cable from the battery, left the rv plugged into shore power and the 12 volt lights still worked - so does this mean the converter is ok? as far as I can tell the fuses are ok.
I checked the battery c a voltmeter and it read somewhere between 11-12 volts both when not hooked up to shore power and when hooked up to shore power. ( the engine battery read 12 volts). I put a trickle battery charger on the house battery and within 1 minute it read fully charged. the fluid level is ok.
I tried to use the house battery to start the generator and it would not (Note: when I do this the LP detector starts beeping until I reset it - don't know what this means). when I push the button to tap into the engine battery, the generator starts easily.
Does this mean that most likely the house battery is bad?? I plan on taking it to Autozone to have it tested tomorrow.
thanks again for the advice. chuck
I think you have found out already if you went to Autozone that you had a bad battery. At no time should you have less than 12.5 volts in a non use state. If charging, you should read at least 13.5 to 14.5 volts on your VOM.

RE: Towing a CR-V with Class C

our crv is all wheel drive , question is , is it ok to tow a AWD car ?? had a problem one time and the tow truck had to call for a flat bed truck .said you can;t tow awd drive cars. I don;t no.
Yes you can flat tow your CR-V. There is a section in your owners manual with the procedure to follow before you tow. It is quite simple, start your engine, put transmission in each gear and return to neutral, turn engine off.

RE: What electrical problem does this sound like to you?

The hazard lights flash and the headlights and running lights work. The turn signals do not work nor do the brake lights.
The hazard lights and brake lights are on the same fuse so, it could not be the fuse.
The US Tow Gear system shows one green LED and one red LED when I hook that up. The compressor runs endlessly and does not shut off unless I pull the umbilical cord.
If I pull the breakaway switch on the TOAD, with the US Gear setup, it does not actuate the brake pedal and the brake lights on the TOAD do not come on.
If I do not hook up the TOAD to the MH, and pull the breakaway switch, the brake pedal is activated and the brake lights come on on the TOAD.
It seems like a coach issue. Would this be a Ford issue? Or, would it be a Fleetwood issue? It seems like the main problem is coming from the chassis, since the brake lights do not work and that is what the US Gear system is counting on.
What are your thoughts?
Is this a new setup?
Are all your problems with the TOAD hooked up?
I had some similiar problems with mine after a long trip pulling my TOAD. The wiring harness for the TOAD hook up had chaffed against the chassis of the the TOAD and shorted out the brake wire, however, it was also blowing the fuse to the brakes to the TOAD that is not the same as the brake fuse for the MH brakes. Both fuses are under the hood of the Ford. Look in your manual and you will see that there is a fuse for the brakes to the towed vehicle.

RE: Whats needed for towing a Vue behind a Class C

I highly recommend the BlueOx. I have one and the ease of use is really great.
It takes only minutes to hitch up the toad or unhitch. I use a Brake Buddy supplemental brake, it also is very easy to use.

RE: volvo chassis vs. freighliner

My cuz John is the in the race car business and normally has some really good super c motorhomes to pull car trailers. Probably get a good price from him.
He presently has a 2006 NRC that has all the options.
His website is: http://www.iperformanceauto.com/

RE: ltv freedom serenity

I didn't know anything about the Serenity, but I found this page.
They look like class B's to me - and note what it says at the top of that page. Maybe you should post this in the class B forum?
I believe you are correct, that is definitely not a C but it is a very nice looking rig.

RE: Shoping for a Class C and Dealers asking for ERNEST Deposit

For this topic I'm talking about buying a Class C motor home. I'm also buying a Toyota Yaris or a Honda Fit.
The idea is to get rid of the 5th wheel (even though we love it) and the truck and get a little car to commute to work and that can be towed behind the Class C
Zig
Zig, before you buy a car to be used as a toad, check out this site: http://www.motorhomemagazine.com/dinghytowingguide/
NOt sure about the Yaris, but the only Honda that is four down towable is the CRV

Not true, the fridge works the same way in a Class C. I think all classes use the same type refridgerators and they all work the same.

RE: KODIAK FUEL CAPACITY

Is there any reason you would not believe the tank is not 80 Gal? The only logical thing is that the guage is not 100% accurate. Is there any fuel guage that is 100% accurate? None that I have ever seen.

RE: onan gen

There is no way I would add that amount of transmission fluid to the gas tank.
If any thing I would probably add Berrymans injector cleaner or something similiar that is specifically designed for that purpose. I think transmission fluid is a bad idea.

That is true for most motor homes. 1/4 tank of gas and the genset will not get any gas.
